Swaddling Blogroll, & EEEWW Oatmeal

So I was thinking about the Adventures in Babywearing Blogroll and thought I would love to do a blog roll of mommas who swear by swaddling. If you had a baby with colic or sleep problems you know the power of the swaddle. Now the problem is that I need to design a button. So, that is my little project for now. The fact that I have not a clue how to design a button is irrelevant. If you want to get on the swaddling blog roll just drop me an e-mail or a comment. Anyelday@aol.com. If not I will just hunt you down through my Google alerts!

on to her feeding
Her Royal Highness Eliza has been rejecting the Royal Organic Oatmeal. She takes a few bites and then does something with her body that makes me and my husband go into fits of laughter. She squeezes her face all up and tenses her little fists at her sides. It looks like she has a bad case of the willies but worse. I wish I had a picture but didn't have the camera on hand. Note to self- always have camera on hand you are a blogger for cryin out loud.
This is how feeding went yesterday:

  • 10:00 a.m. She started screeching in her high chair and I gave her the rest while she sat on my lap. She did that willies thing a couple of time.

  • 5:00 Screamed and cried until I put the cereal away and drinks down her bottle in ecstasy.

  • 7:30 Takes two bites and then cries. Lets the cereal hang out on her tongue and gets the willies. I try and hold her but that doesn't work either. Daddy gets home and she makes me a liar by happily taking a few more spoonfuls. Then she shows daddy how she gets grossed out by scrunching up her face and body. After this she tenses up when I go near the bowl.

I know she just may not be ready for solids yet. My mom suggested trying the airplane but I don't think that will help. She takes a few spoonfuls before deciding it is the grossest thing she has ever ingested. I would like to try bananas but I am going to give it a few days or weeks. There is really no rush with the solids. Yes I know I will probably have to swaddle and give my daughter a bottle on her first day of Kindergarten. That will be after she wakes up from sleeping in my bed.

Check out Motherland for some great info on babies and sleep. Is that an oxymoron?

I was a swaddle mommy! I swaddled my first until she was about 1 1/2 and my second to just about as long! They wouldn't go to sleep any other way!
Sorry the oatmeal is not going well. My kids hated it too. :)

Well Blake hated to be swaddled so I'm out of that category (he learned to unswaddle himself in the hospital (yes at like 1 day old)

I know a lot of mommies who skipped the cereals and went straight to veggies... you could always try that

my guess it is a texture thing... Blake liked his cereal to be thick... make it watery and he'd spit it out

Little H loved her swaddle! She's 9.5 months now and we just gave it up. Now she is in a sleep sack and loves it. I'd have gone nutty without it for sure!!

Hailey loved to be swaddled- just not her arms. But we swaddled her for several months.
You probably need to just give the cereal time- you know they say it can take like 15 times to get used to a new taste or texture.
I've finally added you to the Blogaholics Anonymous Club. Sorry it took me so long and thanks for your patience.
Welcome to the club!!

Ah naps. I remember those. Right now my kids are "napping". Ha ha ha! This really means they are talking loudly to each other, getting undressed and re-dressed in each other's clothes, throwing toys at each other, and possibly drawing on the wall. Ugh. Is spring break over yet?

I was actually afraid that my daughter was never going to learn to eat! She didn't seem to catch on and her food was always all over her. But lo and behold, she loves to eat today! She also was a swaddled baby. We used kiddopatumus.

Okay- you are cracking me up! I love the comment about swaddling her and giving her a bottle on the first day of K- right after she gets up from your bed.....bwa haa haa haa! LOVE IT!

I think she is doing great with the cereal. If she takes a bite or two each time you feed her, that is great. At this point, the cereal, etc is just to learn the routine and the idea of moving food from the front of the tongue to the back of the tongue. She gets her main nutrition from the bottle...the cereal, baby food, etc is the icing on the cake so to speak. Whatever she takes, is fine. I would stick with it...even if it is just a few spoonfuls here and there. No reason to rush a whole bunch of new things on her if you don't want...but I wouldn't quit either.

If you need help with the button, let me know. I might be able to help. You are so cool- you rock the bloggy world!!
