The spring season is upon us and summer follows close behind. It is my most loved and dreaded season of the year. Why? Summer vacations and bathing suits. I am with you on this one Future Mom. Bathing suit shopping is on my list of least favorite activities up there with Pap Smears and cleaning up vomit! It isn’t so much the bathing suits as it is the dressing room lights. I feel like a Perdue chicken standing in the cramped dressing room evaluating my body under those harsh fluorescents. You think they would maybe change lights during the bathing suit season to encourage people make purchases. Or maybe bathing students shouldn’t hit stores in February when I am at the peak of my pastiness. When suit shopping, I usually end up ripping of the suit and running out the store swearing I won’t return until I get a tan and drop five pounds. I avoid bathing suit shopping as long as possible- but a purchase is inevitable and so this year I am going to meet the challenge head on.
I have learned that I DO NOT look good in Target bathing suits. It does not make a lick of difference how cute the suit looks on the hanger. When I put it on my body I have to hold back my gag reflex. I think I am attempting to purchase suits for size zero 15-year-old girls. It is those darn reasonable prices that keep luring me into this trap.
In the past I have ordered several bikinis from Victoria Secret’s. I now feel that when you do this you are just setting yourself up for a big let down. You have to remember that when you first saw the suit it was most likely featured on a model that was 5’11 with giant bazoombas. I am 5’2 and my breasts look more like deflated pancakes after having Eliza. Although I do appreciate being able to try on a suit in my own home, the most forgiving lighting will not make me look like a supermodel.
I have had the most luck with purchasing suits from PacSun. I know these are geared towards a younger crowd but they are usually a pretty good fit for my body. They tend to be a bit pricy- but I will fork it out to avoid looking like the State Push Marshmallow.
So wish me luck on my quest for a bathing suit. Things could get ugly.

I'm going with my first ever tankini this year! Just a few years ago, I was able to get a bikini from the kids section at Old Navy!! Not anymore!
I am currently shopping for a swim suit too. I think I am going with a suit from Land's End. Its expensive, but I am hoping it will last me for several years.
i only buy suits every few years because of my hatred of shopping for them. luck!!
I DREADDDDD shopping for bathing suits. I only bother buying one if we are going away somewhere. It takes me forever to find one that is do able never mind flattering!
I actually love shopping for bathing suits. have you ever tried aeropostale or american eagles bathing suits? they seem to be nice.
Are you going to watch oprah today?
I'm still debating if I want to watch it or not. I want to, but I don't. Haven't completely decided yet.
I hate shopping for swim suits too.... But I love the fact the summer is around the corner.. YAY...
I have a drawer full of Target bikinis that I got to go on my honeymoon. Surprise...got pregnant one month after honeymoon. So those cute bikinis are going to die in that drawer. I have since moved to a tankini. I hate getting a new suit. I always go all optimistic that this is the year I will look HOT! Each time I come home crying that I look like death. I'm sure my 'you better wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare' white legs don't help any. Or the flat boobs. Or the extra skin that I can't seem to fold into the suit like I can my jeans. Maybe my kids just don't need to learn to swim!
I can never find a good suit to fit my body...
oh, I did this last summer for the first time since I had kids (tells you how often I wear a bathing suit!). I seriously tried on 75 different suits before I found a decent one, and it is still not perfect. I ended up buying one with more of a sports bra type top with bigger straps, nothing too low cut - makes in a bit easier when I am chasing 2 little ones around the beach, and no surprises will fall out of my swim top. Good luck!
