and I am the meanest mom ever because...

Blogger has a new feature that lets you see who is following your blog. If you want to follow my blog click follow this blog on my sidebar. I have one follower right now- Lori- and I am psyched to see who is out their reading my blog. And yes I will feel like a lame loser if I continue to have one follower. But I will get over it.

* sorry I missed Tasty Tuesday- will be back with it next week.

So I have been pretty busy lately and haven't really had a chance to blog. I decided to go through my Google Reader and cut it waaaay down to just the blogs that I faithfully read everyday. When I started to look at it and feel overwhelmed I new it was time to cut back. I think this following feature is going to help me- at least to see who is coming to my blog - so I can check out other their blogs. So eve if I read your blog everyday I probably haven't been commenting as much as normal- but will be back soon.

In other news...I guess I am possibly the meanest mom ever because...

I have decided I don't want Eliza watching television anymore. Prior to ever becoming pregnant I had read about the negative effects T.V. has on the development of young kids (under 3). I swore my child would not watch T.V. Well, after E came I broke down and flipped on the T.V mostly to keep myself company in the early months after she was born. Then I stopped watching T.V. - well, maybe one show a night- but E was regularly watching one Baby Einstein a day and maybe another cartoon while I showered. Then I saw this article and I decided to cut back on her viewing. It was really me being lazy and just putting on something entertain her. We haven't had the television on while Eliza is awake for a week now and so far it isn't that bad. I have started putting on some music as well- something I have been meaning to do for a while. My husband says I have taken away all the fun stuff. Oh well! She has her whole life to sit in front of the golden god!

I am busy with preparation or E's party on Saturday. I can't believe it is here already. I am in dispute with my mom on whether or not she should have regular birthday cake. In my opinion it is waaaay to sugary. I would love to find a good vegan recipe and make a smaller cake or some cupcakes. What did you all do when your little ones turned one?
Here we are on Sunday at my cousin's daughter's first birthday! Isn't she a cutie?

Before I had kids I swore I wouldn't let my kids watch tv. Then I had Blake and I realized that some of the kids show were so worth letting him watch, so I limited his tv watching. Then I had Colby and I began using tv to help with Blake while I nursed Colby.

I still realize that there are a lot of negative effects, but as I watch Blake talk to the television shows and learn skills I don't fret as much. Most of the time the tv is on, but we are playing something too.

Hi Danielle!
Great pics and video. E is such a little star. She's such a cutie. What a cool feature blogger has added- I have no idea who visits my blog...would like to know tho'. How neat. As far as the tv- I couldn't agree with you more...they have plenty of time to watch it later in life. The first 5 yrs. are crucial and whenever I can minimize negative effects I do. Our lil guy has watched some videos and tv but for the most part we listen to all sorts of music from light classical-to children's and a lil rock and roll! He loves to dance around. Oh! and far as a b-day cake I have a recipe and will blog about it- thought I did already at wordpress but it's at the place I formly blogged at early this yr. I'll copy and paste for you sometime today! It's a good one...and I think could pass for vegan??? Anyway, have a wonderful day and you're definitely not a mean mom! You're doing a great job! :)

There are tons of really great recipes that aren't exactly vegan but much better than regular birthday cake. I have been thinking about this lately myself and trying to find a good recipe. There are some good ones that take baby food, applesauce, etc. so at least you could leave out all the extra sugar. I'll try to post one I have made before by tomorrow.

I love you to death dan - you're my best friend and i respect your "Vegan" lifestyle... But let your daughter have regular birthday cake on her 1st birthday.. She's gonna eat a few bites - not devour the whole cake, LOL...

Oh well...don't worry I am a mean mom too - we never ever let Tate watch TV - unless he is sick...then he gets to watch one of his kid videos that I KNOW is ok. :) And I also did not give Tate a "real" birthday cake for his first b-day...he had a homemade cake that was a cut up banana...with purreed peaches on top of the banana for icing and some coconut sprinkled on that for decoration...haha...it was very healthy...and I have to say - he loved it!

We didn't give Littlepixie a "real" cake on her 1st birthday either, the rest of us scoffed coconut cake from Eat,Drink&Be Vegan, sooo good! Do you know LP didn't even notice she didn't get cake, she was having such a good time with all her family playing with her. No need to be giving her a sugar high, she was high from all the fun & attention :)

That's a cool follow-y thing, I am now following you.....

You're not the meanest mom ever. I try not to let my kiddies watch tv. But somehow they manage to get it out of me. But it's usually Baby Einstein and a cartoon here and there.

I'm now following you! I lovvee your blog. How do you put the follow button on there?

You and your cousin are gorgeous! And your little kiddies! :)

Hopefully Eliza's birthday party goes well!

I know how you feel about cutting back on blogging- I am down to commenting only once or twice a week- I still read/skim, but just don't have the time to blog like before. Family first, right?

I do let my kids watch tv. Ashlyn mostly, but Riley is there. I limit her time and Riley doesn't really seem to watch as much as dance to a song that comes on or just play around with toys. Bu I do have the tv on at times.

Good luck with the birthday party!

I have the tv on during the day but mostly just for noise. I do the music thing too every once in awhile. I know once N is in tune to the tv Hubby and I will have our differnce of opinions too. Oh well!

The TV time around here has gotten ridiculous. I need to do something, because it is on WAY too much. Mostly because I do get lazy and don't feel like entertaining them all day.
I am following you! I tried to add the follow me button on my blog, but it broke my blog. Hmmm... maybe I will have to try again!

Stick with your convictions! I agree with you - and it's easy since we don't have tv, but we do watch a few more movies than we probably should . . .

Cute photo!
