Eliza's 6 Month Appointment

Today we had Eliza's appointment. She weighed in at 14.5oz and measured 27 1/2 inches long. The doc. never gives me her percentiles so I check them out here. On Monday the 17th she was 14.12oz. The poor little peanut lost 7oz from being sick. She also got vaccines today-which I hate. I am not exactly pro vaccine. I think we way overdo them with babies. However, I won't get into that now.

Eliza was very cranky tonight and I am thinking the vaccines were the cause. It took over an hour to put her down for a nap. I was about to lose my mind. I tried to go to the peaceful place I was in while rocking her yesterday. At her appointment the doctor asked me if she sleeps through the night and I said, " NO ". I am usually pretty hush hush about her sleep because we co sleep a lot and I know doc. does not approve. He mentioned "sleep training" and I just nodded my head. I read The Baby Whisperer and On Becoming Babywise and was not really that sold. The other issue is that she still needs to be swaddled and I just don't know how much longer we should keep swaddling her at night.

Anyhoo, my brain is tired now and am going to go watch House- or what is left of it.

and I can't resist a pic as usual...

Hi! I love your blog and your baby is so beautiful!
I wanted to tell you that we used baby wise for all of our kids and have had wonderful results. I just wanted to tell you that it works really well! :) And we swaddled our eldest until she was almost two, and still used the program, and our littlest one until she was one, and still used it. Don't give up on swaddling, I think that is important! :)

Your daughter is just so beautiful! I'm glad that her appointment went well. Those shots sure do through off their little bodies. I'm sure that is why she was a bit fussier tonight. As far as the sleep thing goes...do what works for you. I have never met an 18 year old that still sleeps with mom and dad. So, if co-sleeping is working for you, hubby and little E- go for it. If you feel you are ready to move her or try some sleep training...that is okay too. I am an "I NEED sleep" person so I moved my kids (plus because of having to return to work when they were 4 or 5 months) but I still say that we should do what works for our family. No one else is there with you and your family....not even the doctor. Do what feels best. (I'm sorry if I got all preachy on you...)

Don't worry about her "peanutti-ness". Kaelin was always really tiny and EVERYONE was constantly letting me know by being how shocked when I told them how old she was. Everyone thought she was younger because of her size. But she has made some strides recently and can actually wear 12 mos. clothes now! Cute pic. I'm sure she was just fussy from the vaccines...did you give her tylenol or motrin?

I think you have to do what works best for you. At a point we decided to try to let Blake CIO and yes I know it is very controverial, but it totally worked for him, after 3 nights he put himself to sleep. But, I always say you have to go with your mommy insticts as to what is best for you and your little ones... if your dr. doesn't agree than maybe you need to look for a different dr.

As for the shots, that is always a hard one, and yes it throws them for a loop, but it usually only lasts that night (at least for us it does)

Glad the appointment went well...and as for sleeping - Tate didn't sleep through the night until he turned 1 yr. old and until I stopped nursing him (and we didn't do much co-sleeping...), but my point is that YOU know Eliza best - and you are her mommy - so if you think co-sleeping is best, go for it. And as for the swaddling...I have a friend who swaddled her baby until he was almost 1 yr. old...and we stopped probably around 5 months old...so it all depends - you're the mom! :) You know best. :)

You gotta do what's best for you. A friend of mine usually waits until 18 months to do any form of sleep training because at that point the child can understand that "mommy loves you but you have to go to sleep, she'll be back in the morning." I waited until 8/9 months and might have waited longer but the twins were just so overwhelming.

One thing we did do was swaddle as long as possible. I think they were close to 10 months or so...

Your daughter is soooo cute! Glad her 6 month appointment went well. We co-sleep too and my daughter is almost 18 months old. I don't mind having her sleep with us. So, I say if it works for you and you don't mind- keep doing it. I was one of those people who said my child would never sleep with me too!
