Fun Activities/Crafts for Transportation

WW Post Down Below

This week my class is learning about transportation. We read the big books Dan the Flying Man and Dan Goes Home which are a part of our reading series The Wright Group. Here are two fun centers we are doing this week. They could easily be done with younger children as well and require very few supplies.

Here one student made an airplane using shapes. Other students made cars, buses, submarines, spaceships, helicopters, etc. He then wrote a sentence. He wrote "to" instead of "in" but overall a great job. At the end of the week students will count and record the number of shapes used in his/her creation.

And here is the second project. We discussed things that they would take in their suitcase on a trip. Who doesn't love a trip? Then students picked items from store circulars, glued them into a suitcase and labeled them using invented spelling. If daddy or mommy goes in business trips- little ones might like to pack a pretend suitcase for them.

The class is also preparing to write postcards from a dream travel destination. I will use travel guides from a travel agency to help give them some inspiring ideas!

and don't forget to sing The Wheels on the Bus! Actually my class had this idea all on their own today and sang it without my prompting!

You are such a good teacher - I hope when my kids go to school that they have a teacher like you!

I'm totally stealing this idea for my kindergarten and 1st grader. Most of my students are in 3rd grade or higher so I often find myself at a loss for fun projects for my two younger ones. Thanks for the ideas!
