Bloggy Updates

It has been almost six months since I started this blog. Recently, I have been working on updating parts of the blog. Heather suggested we should permanently post book reviews on the sidebar. So last night I put up the two books we have reviewed so far with links to the reviews. If you missed them the first time, you can go check them out at any time. Also I have been trying to update my Raves and Faves.

Now I am asking you my bloggy friends, "What would you like to see more of on the blog?" What do you love? Hate? Want to see more of?

I have been thinking of asking some new moms I know to guest blog but I haven't made a final decision yet. It is new mommy rant after all so maybe I should expand my team. But then it wouldn't really be just my blog, and I would probably feel like I had to start another blog. UUGGHH I have also considered going the pay per post route to make some money but I think people don't really like to read those posts that much . GGRRR I am just not sure where I want to see my blog in the future. I feel like the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz pointing in many different directions.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I like what you've been doing over here and don't think it needs much change. Please don't do ppp....it will only hurt your google rank and they put me off :(

Please don't take this as a slam but rather just some opinions... if you're planning on adding more stuff to your sidebars, consider a new template. There are a lot of new four-column templates floating around.

What I like is columns with a purpose - group like things together. A section for "sponsors" "friends sites/blogs" "communities" etc. If it gets too cluttered, I get lost or quit looking at it. I recently got rid of a bunch of widgets and banners that were cluttering (and slowing down) my blog.

And please don't go to pay-per-post... it may make you some cash but you take the chance of scaring people away.

Okay, here is my opinion on getting paid to blog - it will be a chore and not a hobby anymore. I like my blog because I can write what I want to - whenever I want to.

I think you're over analyzing this whole thing. Your blog is great just the way it is!

Another vote against ppp if you don't mind. There have been a few blogs I've stopped reading as I got fed up of the constant product enthusing, (I'm not saying you'd do this btw!) but it can get hard for a reader to see where the fee-paying posts end and the real blogger begins!

I like your blog as it is :)

I did PPP for a few months, and while I made some nice pocket money from it, I eventually grew tired of it. I then was able to tell that a blog I used to read frequently was doing PPP (by the style of posts and the things advertised, etc) and I found I just skipped over those posts b/c I knew they were ads. As much as I defended PPP while I was doing it, it's true that it changes how you write, and esp since part of your blog is meant as a place to post reviews, if you then also have posts that are paid advertisements for things (most of which will have nothing or little to do with mommyhood) it might hurt your credibility on the stuff you genuinely want to rave about.

I also second the de-cluttering of the sidebars a little bit.

I think you should keep doing what you do...I enjoy your blog already. I know the ppp thing isn't popular with most people- but it doesn't bother me. I read blog that do those (and while I don't do ppp, I do review things myself). If I am not interested in the product- I just skip over it. I still read those blogs for the 'normal' posts. Do what you need to do for you.

First of all, I love your blog...it is awesome! And on the paid post thing, I don't think that it makes blogging a chore or anything like that. The paid posts take 10 minutes MAX to do (usually way less than 10 minutes!) and you get paid really well sometimes. I definitely think it is worth it, and I have not found that my stats have dropped at all when I do more paid posts and stuff like that...all you need to do is put a REAL post after your paid post every time you do one, so that the paid post is not at the top...because really, people probably don't read them very often!! I know I don't...but I don't care if people do them on their blogs because I know that it is a good and easy way to make a few extra $$!! Good luck with your decisions though. :)

I think that 6 months is a very short time in blog land. My suggestion would be to keep doing what your doing and just watch your stats~~ what are the things that get the most response.

Also, teaming up with other bloggers (like me :) ) is also a good idea. I know that participating in Wordless Wednesday always helps lift me stats. I also find that the practical/down-to-earth advice seems to get the most responses.

My only suggestion (since you asked) would be to see if you could change the polka-dots in the center column of your blog. When it first loads, I can only see the polka-dots and it's difficult to read the text. There is a lag and then the middle column becomes brown- and readable. Otherwise, I like your template.
