I'm a Big Chicken and Where are all my "People"?

Part I

So it turns out that I am a huge scaredy baby. I am not quite sure when this happened but I think it was right around when I got preggers with E. I used to love, love, love horror movies. A a teen I read every Dean Koontz and Stephen King book imaginable. I enjoyed being terrified out of my mind. Now, not so much. Last night the hubs suggested we watch The Eye! The title sounded scary as I was pretty sure it was not an optical love story, but he reassured me it was PG13. First, it was a horrible movie. Second, it scared the SH$T outta me and I ended up reading Eat, Pray, Love through the end. The I went up to bed alone and couldn't even sleep with the light off. I had to go to bed with the light on. Thanks scary movie for making me waste energy. No more scary movies. I guess there is so much negativity in the world that I just don't want to go to bed at night thinking about seeing dead people. I do have to exclude all CSI's and Law and Orders- for some reason those don't scare me so much.

Part II

I have been trying to do my best to be earth conscience. I realized that although I was using cloth bags at the supermarket, I wasn't using them at other stores. So, yesterday at Target I used cloth bags. Then the hubs, Eliza and I ran to Home Depot to pick two small items. The hubs was using the self-check out and I said, "We don't need a bag." He gave me kind of a nasty look. I new I had just irritated him. When we got into the car I was markedly upset. I told him that I was just trying to do something good by not using plastic bags. He said he didn't see what difference one bag made. And I know this is the mindset of many, many people. Of course this brought me to tears as I tried to explain that one person can make a difference and just because a lot of people use plastic bags doesn't me we should. Do you think it is that time of the month? I love my husband but he is not one of my "people". I don't know where my "people" are as I haven't been abler to find them yet."

* Side not- My niece Alli started me using the term, "My People". She uses the term when she sees other who also have sizable ears. She calls them her "people". her ears are just perfect in my opinion.

Where are my people? Why can't I find them? Am I Eco crazy or something? Should I scout out the super market for people whose carts filled with organic produce, green cleaners and a variety of tasty nut butters? Of course they will also be using cloth bags at the check out.

I am sad that my husband is not my "people." He tries for me, but he just isn't that into the GREEN thing. He uses cloth diapers no problem, eats my non-meat concoctions, replaces our light bulbs with energy saving ones, and tries to shut off the water when he brushes his teeth- but only because I ask him too!

His people are "golf" people I suspect.

If you are my "people" please come and find me so I don't feel damned crazy!

On a happier note, I won some fun Eco-friendly products from Green and Clean Mom. When my prize came in the mail I was ecstatic. I could barely wait to use my Toilet Bowl Fizzy Tablets! I also received The Kitchen Cleaner and The Bathroom Spray Cleaner and I have already used them both. Joyful Girl Naturals also has a line of natural beauty products!

I have found the older I get the less tolerant I am of a lot of things. I used to LOVE roller coasters now I don't want anything to do with them.

hope you find your people!

I think I've just become one of your people. I started working for a cloth diaper manufacturer and it's hard not to be green when you're doing that! Oh- and I've been a big chicken since long before I was pg. You're not alone!

Well, I am a vegetarian and we use clothes bags, so I guess I am one of your "people." However I don't use cloth diapers simply because I am lazy.

I'm trying harder to be one of your "people"! Tell us how the toilet bowl fizzies worked!

G'day from Australia,

Isn't that what Gordon Gecko said in the film `Wall Street' - ``Green is good''!!!

i think you're doing a good thing by using cloth bags.. but it doesn't really matter because the bags are still being made!! Isn't is a shame?
I too am trying to use less and less plastic and paper towels... I'm a paper towel addict as well!

I'm the same way--I used to LOVE scary movies and books. I too was a huge Stephen King fan, but once I got pregnant I decided I hated all scary movies. Even the commercials for movies like Shutter and The Strangers really freak me out now!

It quite possible she got the "My people" from me. When all of us were at your wedding in Mexico. I used to call all of the locals. "My people." As for your hubby, maybe you could buy him some biodegradable golf tees. I think I read about those a while back.

I am new to your blog...I loved my visit!

I am a HUGE wimp and always have been...I cannot even stomach mild violence. That can narrow down a lot of entertainment. I like fluff. :)

Wow! Thanks for adding my button! I'll add yours to my blog, too. :)

I completely identify with all that you said. I was nuts for horror books and movies in high school, but ever since I had kids, I just can't hack it. The people who get slaughtered (for lack of better word) in this form of "entertainment" aren't characters to me any more. I see everyone as someone's child! I can't help it. I simply can't enjoy horror anymore. It's too...horrifying.

About the plastic bags: If we had to pay for them, even ten cents a bag, you can bet that more husbands would be on board with cloth shopping bags. Since they're free, my husband doesn't care how many we use, or even if we throw them all away as soon as they're unpacked! I'm in the process of sewing my own shopping bags, and I'm going to slowly introduce him to them, maybe add a bag every week. Good luck with your hubby. I know men can be exasperating. :D

I am soooo you're people!
First off, I'm with you on the change in scary movies since having a kiddo. I noticed the same thing. I'm definitely not as into being terrified. I've got enough real life terror raising a child now thankyouverymuch.
And I'm try very hard to be a more green person. I do the bags at the grocery store (and thanks for making me think of using them elsewhere too!) and am slowly switching my cleaning products to "greener" products.

And congrats on the prize winning! I like being one of those people too!

My hubby and i go round and round about the bags. he thinks the stores do it just to save them money. so why, he says, should we do it when they are not reimbursing us. i do tend to agree with that but that doesn't stop me from trying to remember my bags. i do remember them at the grocery store, but hit myself over the head in other stores too that i forgot them. do they look at u strange when u say u have a bag or ur own? my cvs does that to me. although i think they are getting used to it now.

I am your people. I always use cloth bags. If I forget to bring them into the store I still won't get plastic and I won't buy another cloth bag because I already have enough. I just pile everything into my cart after I pay for it and then take it to my car and put it in a bag then. If I don't have a bag in my car I will wait until I get home and bring a bag out of the house. You can bet that only happened a couple times before I started to remember my bags. I deal with friends and family members who won't use cloth bags or recycle and think organic food is a waste of money. It drives me nuts. So don't worry, you're not alone.
