Gettin frugal wit it Na na na na na na na nana

A few weeks ago I read an awesome post over at Recycle Your Day on making veggie stock. While I was reading I thought, I am spending enough on organic veggies-I might as well get a second use out of them. So I started saving my scraps in the freezer and on Friday I had my first experience making veggie stock and it was FABULOUS!

I put my veggies in a pot and filled it with water. I also roasted some in the oven to give the stock extra yummy flavor.

It was easy and I ended up with a lot of stock. I put some in the fridge and some in the freezer and now I am set for a while. When I do run out I am sure I will have enough scraps to whip up another batch.
Also, make sure to check out Recycle Your Day for monthly features written bu Jill Nussinow-The Veggie Queen. The latest post was on sprouting beans!

great idea... you can also make stock with chicken bones or meat bones if you have those too. I know you buy free range chicken and spend extra money on that if they have bone use them to make chicken stock

I've always wanted to try that, but never have. Sounds simple now that you explained it! Thanks!

Congrats on your wee one as well. Here's to a healthy and happy pregnancy!

Thanks for the mention, and to your readers for the comments on making stock from chicken and other things (which I don't usually do but can be done).
I appreciate your reading my monthly posts. Hmmm, wonder what will be next. I hope that you'll find it interesting. And I hope to help lots of new, and more established, moms eat well and be well to help those little ones grow up.
