Chicken Soup for Mother's Day and a GIVEAWAY!

Chicken Soup for the Soul...we've all heard about the amazing series of books that have sold over one hundred million copies since 1993! In fact, USA Today has named the original Chicken Soup for the Soul one of the most memorable and impactful books in the last 25 years...that's pretty impressive. Two new titles have been recently released and would make great mother's day gifts...

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Like Mother, Like Daughter
Do you ever get the feeling you are turning into your mother? (YIKES!) The similarities that moms & daughters share make up some of the most heartwarming and amusing stories in this book. You can read about this and many other mother/daughter topics such as learning from each other, a mother's wisdom, raising teenage daughters, and becoming best friends with your mom.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Moms and Sons
A collection of stories written by moms, grandmothers, and sons about their special relationships. It includes touching and funny stories about many topics such as being a good sport and how to raise a wonderful man. According to most of these mothers and sons, being a "mama's boy" is a good thing.

Check out all of the books in the Chicken Soup series on their website. There are so many to choose from...sports, religion, pets, college...there is definitely something for everyone! I am thinking about picking up the one on Empty Nesters for my mom. And with Mother's Day right around the corner, I am going to send TWO lucky winners a copy of one of these books! To enter the giveaway, leave me a comment about a happy Mother's Day memory from your past or tell me your exciting Mother's Day plans for this year. Don't forget to leave me your email address so I can find you if you are one of the winners. Please make a note if you would be more interested in receiving the Mother/Daugther or Mother/Son copy. For an extra entry, post about this giveaway on your blog and link to me. For two extra entries, follow me on twitter. The winners will be announced next Thursday...good luck to everyone!

Start a Momtourage and Snatch a Copy of Coming Unglued

What is a momtourage? Quite simply it is a play group for moms.

Have I piqued your interest?

I started a mom's group in my development. It is for moms and their babies to get together. A momtourage is a little different. It is a chance for women to get together as a social outlet- sans kiddos. I'm all ears! As i have read in many mommy blogs- it is that precious time away from our kids that often helps us to be better moms.

The brain behind the concept of the momtourages is author, mother, and an avid scrapbooker Rebeca Seitz. As the founder of SistersInk.net, she has harnessed the power of female networks through scrapbooking. She sees scrapbooking as a way to bring moms together for support. Seitz learned just how important a female support system could be after finding out her first husband had been unfaithful. It was her momtourage, the women in her life, that helped her push past the deception and move on. She is now remarried with two children. She is also the creator of Sister Ink.net and brings women scrapbookers together.

I've said it before, life as a mom can be quite isolating. I am a strong believer that moms need to get out there and socialize! As a new mom I have relied on the strength of female friends to get through some tough times. There are tons of common interests that bring women together. It might be a sewing, reading, crafting, babywearing, going green, or playing Bunko. It's the getting together part that is key.

Want to start your own Momtourage?
Seitz offers five steps for getting a Momtourage started.

Momtourage 101

1. First, identify a common thread. Motherhood? Love of scrapbooking, books, sewing? Obsession with chocolate or coffee?
2. Carve out a space in your home like a spare room or game room where girlfriends can join you in your craft, or secure a space at a public facility like a library or community center.
3. Establish a schedule and take turns hosting, or determine to schedule each consecutive meeting at the current meeting.
4. Connect. Make certain your time together allows for the most important thing - conversation!
5. Stick with it. Remind each other that you are better moms, wives, daughters, women because you’re connecting with other women. No need for guilt!

The Book! Coming Unglued (B &H Fiction July, 2008)
The second book in the Sister Ink series, Coming Unglued is a story about love, family, faith and the strength of friendship. It deals with infidelity through the eyes of the "other woman".I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It is light reading and written from an interesting perspective. The main character, Kendra, deals with some tough choices in the book. She relies on her scrapping sisters to help her see what is right . How does it turn out? You'll just have to read to find out.

Luckily...
I am giving away a copy of Coming Unglued by Rebecca Seitz. In order to win reply with one reason your why momtourage rocks! Contest Ends September 21st.
I will give my shout out! Not that I have a real momtourage (YET), but I do have my girls who I go to when times get tough! Thanks ladies for being there when I want to pull out my own hair. I hope I have been here for you as well!

Back to School

Make sure you head over to Simple Things this week to check out the Babywearing Bonanza! I already entered for a chance to win a Posh Papoose and you can too! Woo Hoo! On a more serious note, the post today is an interview with Mary Finch founder of No Mother Left Behind- check it out!

So today is the day that almost all of my friends went back to school. Some are going back to work and leaving their little ones in the care of someone else. I have these moms in my heart today because I know how hard it is to go back to work. I know some unquestioningly would rather stay at home. Others, enjoy the time at work( adult interaction) but also miss their precious babes. Regardless, it is never an easy choice.

I lost my walking partner but I will continue to walk everyday! I am so proud of the fact that I walked almost every single day this summer. Sometimes I woke up feeling lazy but I always forced myself out the door no matter how tired or glum I felt. In the end the walk always made me feel better and I am happy I made the effort. As summer turns to fall and then quickly to winter I will lose these precious opportunities to breathe fresh air and enjoy nature. I really DO take the time to appreciate nature and all it has to offer.

Do I really want her to talk?

So I believe Eliza is now saying the word done. I might be crazy but when she doesn't want to eat anymore she says what sounds a lot like done in the cutest little baby voice ever. I think she just wants to get out of her high chair and knows I always say "all done" before she gets out. Now when I ask and sign, "Do you want more or are you all done?" she always replies done. I am onto her little game now and know she just wants to go play. haha I'll try to get her on hidden camera if I can.

Today I am headed to this zoo! with Rose and Alessia. I love the zoo so I am STOKED!

LAF Review & Giveaway!

It has been like Christmas around here lately. Last week I received some awesome products from LAF brand. LAF stands for "Little Angel Face". This company offers seriously innovative products that make life easier for busy families.

The first product is the Roll-N-Go Diaper Caddy. This product is seriously convenient. It is an organized mom's dream and will help me with my dream of becoming organized. This diaper caddy will turn any bag into a diaper bag. Dads can even sneak it into a manly bag and be prepared for any occasion. In my opinion if you need to run out quick it is pretty enough to stand alone as a clutch. Or, stash it in the car for emergencies!
With fall just around the corner we head right into long sleeve t-shirt season. Then Mother Nature throws us a curve ball and you get a warm afternoon and wish you had some summer clothes still available. Attachables clothing is the answer to the too hot, too cold fall weather. The sleeves Velcro in and can be taken off in a jiffy if it gets too warm. The if you get chilly you can reattach them with ease! Products range from infant to 5T so there is something for all your little ones.I wish they made this product in an adult size. Too bad for me!

Stay tuned for the upcoming LAF Rocks line featuring extra long, fun striped removable sleeves with Rocker style. Eliza is a rocker girl and she will def. be getting one of these for her birthday. Additionally, the shirt will also come with a pair of white sleeves so kids can mix and match. We all know how important it is for kids to have choice and these sleeves will help them express their individual style.

I am giving a way a size 3T Attachables T-Shirt. Your little one will LAF out Loud in this adorable black tee with white sleeves. Just visit the LAF website and leave a comment telling me your favorite product! Contest ends September 1st!.

What's up Doc?

It might be Vaginitis. I had to give Eliza a sitz bath in Vinegar and water. Then I towel dried her off so she didn't smell like a salad (Dr.'s exact instruction- haha). Finally I had to apply some Neosporin to the AREA! I have to bring her in to the office tomorrow because she might need antibiotics!

I'll keep you all posted.

Munchkin Giveaway Update

It is with deep regret that I write this post. All I can say is that I am a bone- head. BIG TIME! The winner of my Munchkin basket giveaway lives in Malaysia. My mom, faithful FedEx employee, was planning to ship my basket and said no deal on shipping to Malaysia. So I contacted Bunny and we are working it out. She won't go away empty handed. I really feel horrible and should have specify who could enter. I was naive and did not think about it at the time- I guess I did not realize my blog reached mommies so far away. I am sorry again, and again, and again.

Sooooooooo I had to go through the process of picking another winner for the basket. I knew I should have kept all the names the first time I wrote them down.

You live and you learn. That is what I have to say about my first giveaway.

Anyhoo,
Th new winner is Christy from Cakerwakers. Congrats!!!

Stupid News and A Giveaway

And the stupid thing I did this week is...
Run over the garbage cans again! My hubs did it on Monday night and I did it again yesterday morning. You really think I would learn- but I am that dense. Of course when I did it the can was full of recyclables so I had to pick them all up and then go to work. (I did run back in the house to wash my hands) On a good note a neighborhood kid asked me if I needed help which I thought was so super sweet. I kindly declined and said THANKS! but I would clean up my own mess. I did not want him touching all that garbage and then getting on his bus.
and in other stupid news

  • I also forgot to sign in at work this morning.
  • Used the Salsbury Steak spoon from my mom's dinner to mix Eliza's Rice Water.

Just wait- It's only Thursday-the week is not over yet.

and now for the more exciting news.

I will be unveiling my first giveaway and it is a GOOOODIE with a capital G. I am so excited about it I could do a cartwheel. The contest will run for 20 days and I hope everyone will participate.
