Last weekend, Johnson & Johnson posted an online commercial for Motrin. They were trying to say that this pain reliever will help you get rid of the pain you get from baby wearing. The narrator describes babywearing by saying that "supposedly it's a real bonding experience" and describes that baby wearing is the new hip thing to do. She also says that babywearing makes you look like an "official mom". Many moms agreed that this ad was offensive & it was removed. A rep for Johnson & Johnson (who is a mother herself) has issued an apology for the ad, saying that they did not mean to offend moms through their advertising. I think that this ad is completely stupid, especially because she is saying that there are so many kinds of carriers and they will all hurt you which is obviously not true. What are your thoughts...Is this video offensive to you?

Video Time
Eliza and I were having some video camera fun last night. I have been wanting to make videos of different carriers and carries for a while. Last night I decided to do a front carry in the Mei Tai. It only took us three tries and one pizza delivery to get this video done! I am realizing the intro was cut off. Also, pay no mind to the toddler standing on a rocking chair in the background. Enjoy!

Back to School
Make sure you head over to Simple Things this week to check out the Babywearing Bonanza! I already entered for a chance to win a Posh Papoose and you can too! Woo Hoo! On a more serious note, the post today is an interview with Mary Finch founder of No Mother Left Behind- check it out!
So today is the day that almost all of my friends went back to school. Some are going back to work and leaving their little ones in the care of someone else. I have these moms in my heart today because I know how hard it is to go back to work. I know some unquestioningly would rather stay at home. Others, enjoy the time at work( adult interaction) but also miss their precious babes. Regardless, it is never an easy choice.
I lost my walking partner but I will continue to walk everyday! I am so proud of the fact that I walked almost every single day this summer. Sometimes I woke up feeling lazy but I always forced myself out the door no matter how tired or glum I felt. In the end the walk always made me feel better and I am happy I made the effort. As summer turns to fall and then quickly to winter I will lose these precious opportunities to breathe fresh air and enjoy nature. I really DO take the time to appreciate nature and all it has to offer.

Just another Manic Monday
How come when Friday hits the weekend goes in fast forward. Then Monday morning arrives and it all starts going in sloooow motion.
My weekend in review...
Saturday was the day of NO naps. Eliza would just not sleep.Pete was going to A.C. to see Bubba the Love Sponge and I was heading to a Fiesta at Tracy's. It was a busy day and we just wanted Eliza to be well rested. We tried all the sure things- walks, car rides and still no naps. She kept falling asleep in the car and then waking up and crying. She HATES her big girl car seat. As the day went on it became apparent that she had no intentions of any serious napping. She eventually slept a little bit on the car ride down to Tracy's. Unfortunately, the Jersey shore traffic was a nightmare and by the time we got there we could only stay for a little while.
The ants go marching one by one- hurrah hurrah
Saturday we stayed over at my mom's house. Then we headed back home on Sunday and spent the day cleaning. This cleaning was comprised of attacking the gazillion ants that took over the kitchen in our absence. I HATE ANTS! As we were spraying them with Seventh Generation Cleaner I couldn't help but go all Pulp Fiction thinking "Any of you f***ing pricks move, and I'll execute every motherf***ing last one of ya." I told you I really, really dislike ants. Oh and im addition to the ant massacre I finally packed away my maternity clothes. It only took me 10 months.
Dinner for
Last night was the first time we ever went out to dinner with E. Peter and I had a gift card for Applebees so we decided to go out. Eliza was very well behaved. I am so proud of my little pumpkin. And because Eliza was so well behaved I treated myself with a giant glass of apple sangria- because I am such a good mommy. YUMMY!

So I am like the hugest loser ever and spent my Sunday night watching the new Ashley Tisdale movie Picture This! And no!- my 10 year old niece did not make me watch it. I think I was secretly brainwashed as I saw the preview probably 100 times over the past week. MUST WATCH PICTURE THIS!
Today is mommies group take two. However, he weekend zipped by so fast I hardly feel prepared. Then again, I am never really prepared. Although, I did have Eliza's swim class bag prepared well in advance last Thursday like I said I would. It is part of my new plan to organize and simplify my life. Stay tuned for more updates on how I am taking control of my mental and physical clutter. And no, it doesn't involve more Sangria- although...
NO NAPS FACE! Trust me when I say- I am smiling through the pain.

Salad Baby, Patina Mastina, & It's a Wrap
We went to the Doc today and the good news is that she doesn't need antibiotics. At least she doesn't need them yet. Of course when the doctor looked she was all clear down there. The bad news- I have to make a baby salad 4 times a day for fifteen minutes. Eliza is growing very tired of sitting in her vinegar bath. We need to continue with the baths until Thursday and then see how it looks. Hopefully it will be all clear! The doc said it could be from a swim diaper or from poo in the choo choo. Damn that poo in the choo choo. No more prunes for Eliza.

Playing Catch Up!
I feel like I have been so busy since school ended. Here is a post to play a little catch up.
Eliza has been moving a lot. Her new favorite thing is to find microscopic fuzzies on the carpet. So now I am vacuuming and sweeping everyday. She also enjoys eating paper. Since she started crawling she has been go, go, going! I can't believe how fast she is developing. Where did my baby go? She no longer wants to be contained in any way which makes getting things done rather difficult. Here is my little momma on the move...
a long nap to rest up while mommy holds me and Gary cat too!
The wedding was amazing. We all had an awesome time and I can't believe it is over. The bride and groom are off enjoying their honeymoon. Here are some pics from the night taken by one bridesmaids' fiancee. You can see all of his work from the night here. My hubs took a zillion awesome pics too but he is working on editing them.

Cloth diapering is going well. We have had a couple leaks. I definitely prefer one brand of diapers so far. However, overall I am very impressed by all of the brands. The only problem is that Eliza has been going #2 like five times a day for some reason so I have had a big mess. My MIL suggested dunking the diapers to get the goo off. I would love any suggestions on this nasty duty!
My niece Alli has been with me for a little over a week. We have been keeping very busy. She has been grating old candle and making new candles from the shavings. She has also been melting down old crayons and putting them into candy mold to make new crayons. She did a post on it-but I haven't had time to add pictures.
On the baby wearing front...
I have been working on the hip carry in my Mei Tai and on getting Eliza on my back with no help. Yesterday I received a Gypsy Mama wrap I ordered (after winning some money) so I am stoked to try out some carries with a SPOC!

Don't forget to enter my contest to win a Sprout Pouch!

A New Mom Discovers Babywearing!
I am at the wedding today so no regular bloggy post for me. Instead, I am posting pics of my friend and neighbor Rose wearing her adorable little girl Alessia in her brand new Moby Wrap. She also has a sling on the way! She said she was able to make breakfast, eat and type while Alessia was in the wrap.

Happy Babywearing!

Babywearing with the Jelly bean
Obviously we all know the many benefits of wearing your baby (or someone else's haha). Most importantly for me, he never cries while he is being carried around in the sling! He really enjoys being up high and I can get everything done that I need to while wearing him.
Here are some pics of us using the jelly bean sling...they are not the greatest photos in the world because the only person around to take them was my 3 year old niece. I think she did a pretty good job considering she has no practice with a camera (mostly because I am the only crazy person who would give her one)! Thanks again Danielle for this great sling :)
Decided to go crazy and try the front carry. I think this one is more difficult for both of us :)
Here is Owen trying to climb back into the sling after I took him out! He loves it!

A Family Outing
Today was the Autism walk and I am exhausted! We had to leave the house by 8:00 because it was about an hour and a half away. Of course I had to run into Target to get sunscreen for Eliza because I am last minute with everything. Typical! Our trip was uneventful and E slept the whole ride there.
When we arrived I decided to put the lotion on Eliza straight away. I opened the cap and discovered it was ORANGE! So I did my best to lather her up without getting her clothes stained. For the most part I did an excellent job- if you don't count her now orange stained socks. I hope orange is the new pink! It was also really sticky just like they said it was over at Safe Mama Blog. So basically Eliza was an orange sticky mess- but at least she was protected from the sun.
We registered and then it was time for Eliza's Num Nums. This was our first time giving solids away from home. I fumbled a bit getting things together. I was not really sure where to place things while trying to get things ready and keep everything from touching the ground. Hopefully people were focused on Eliza and not looking at her mommy enter uncharted territory. Overall, it went smoothly. Here is daddy feeding her some yummy oatmeal and pears.
Next it was time for some baby wearing. I started out with her in the back carry but she wasn't a happy camper so I ended up moving her to the front. She was really content like this and it worked out really well.
Here we are in action. Eliza is too concerned with all of the other people to look at her daddy.

Reasons to Wear Your Baby
If you have kids I know you have been in this situation. You are at the store in the parking lot and your baby is safely buckled in his/her car seat inside the car. You look at the stroller like it is a WWWF wrestler. You know it will you or the stroller-one of you is going down. I think they purposely make strollers cumbersome and difficult to open and close so we all look like fools in the parking lot. I am only 5'2 and I think the stroller comes up to my neck. Cut to me shoving it into my trunk that is filled with things I am too lazy to throw out. There are still about 20 rubber ducks in my trunk left over from my baby shower. The stroller always bounces off of them and comes back at me. The best is the toy Lightening McQueen car that someone gave me. I meant to bring it in for my students back in September but never did. If I hit it just right with the stroller it shouts out quotes from Cars. I know that stupid car is taunting me and my inability to get the stroller back into my trunk smoothly. Usually I have broken into a sweat and am cursing under my breath by the time I am finished. I have decided you just cannot look cool while performing this task. It isn’t just me. I have also seen my 5’11 husband struggle with the stroller. My answer to this dilemma is baby wearing. I try to forgo the stroller at all costs. Let it collect dust in my trunk with everything else. I know I will just end up with my shopping bags in the stroller and the baby in my arms anyway. Don’t try to deny it moms. I have seen you all at the mall.
Here are my top five reasons for baby wearing
1. I can finally ditch that stroller and go hands free.- stop looking like a fool and started looking cool.
2. I can work out without really trying. It may not really count as exercise but I tell myself it does.
3. It brings Eliza and I together in a way that nothing else can. I can feel her breathing and we truly become one.
4. I always know she is safe and right there with me.
5. I can spend time online researching baby carries to make up for the time my husband spends on the golf course. He wanted me to get a hobby!
Ok, here are some additional reasons to wear your baby from http://www.naturalchild.org/guest/laura_simeon.html
1. Wearing a baby is convenient.
When we carry a baby in a sling, we can walk around freely and not have to worry about negotiating steps, crowds or narrow aisles with a stroller. Plastic "baby buckets" and removable car seats are heavy and awkward for parents, babies often look uncomfortable, and they are kept at knee level. A sling can block out excess stimuli when breastfeeding a distractible baby, and it allows for discreet nursing in public places. A sling can also double as a changing pad, blanket, or cushion when away from home. I've found my sling especially handy when negotiating busy airports with a small child and several bags!
2. Wearing a baby promotes physical development.
When a baby rides in a sling attached to his mother, he is in tune with the rhythm of her breathing, the sound of her heartbeat, and the movements his mother makes – walking, bending, and reaching. This stimulation helps him to regulate his own physical responses, and exercises his vestibular system, which controls balance. The sling is in essence a "transitional womb" for the new baby, who has not yet learned to control his bodily functions and movements. Research has shown that premature babies who are touched and held gain weight faster and are healthier than babies who are not1. Mechanical swings and other holding devices do not provide these same benefits.
3. Babies worn in slings are happier.
Studies have shown that the more babies are held, the less they cry and fuss2. In indigenous cultures where baby-wearing is the norm, babies often cry for only a few minutes a day – in contrast to Western babies, who often cry for hours each day. Crying is exhausting for both the baby and his parents, and may cause long-term damage as the baby's developing brain is continually flooded with stress hormones.3 Babies who do not need to spend their energy on crying are calmly observing and actively learning about their environment. Baby-wearing is especially useful for colicky babies, who are far happier being worn, but placid, content babies and children will also benefit greatly from the warmth and security of being held close.
4. Baby-wearing is healthy for you!
It can be challenging for new mothers to find time to exercise, but if you carry your baby around with you most of the day or go for a brisk walk with your baby in her sling, you will enjoy the dual benefits of walking and "weightlifting". A long walk in the sling is also an excellent way to help a tired but over-stimulated child fall asleep.
5. Toddlers appreciate the security of the sling.
Slings are usually associated with infants, but they can be very useful for toddlers as well; most slings accommodate children up to 35 or 40 pounds. The world can be a scary place for toddlers, who feel more confident when they can retreat to the security of the sling when they need to do so. Toddlers often become over-stimulated, and a ride in the sling helps to soothe and comfort them before (or after!) a "melt-down" occurs. It can be very helpful in places like the zoo, aquarium, or museum, where a small child in a stroller would miss many of the exhibits.
6. Baby-wearing helps you and your baby to communicate with each other.
The more confidence we have in our parenting, the more we can relax and enjoy our children. A large part of feeling confident as a parent is the ability to read our baby's cues successfully. When we hold our baby close in a sling, we become finely attuned to his gestures and facial expressions. Many baby-wearing parents report that they have never learned to distinguish their baby's cries – because their babies are able to communicate effectively without crying! Every time a baby is able to let us know that she is hungry, bored or wet without having to cry, her trust in us is increased, her learning is enhanced, and our own confidence is reinforced. This cycle of positive interaction enhances the mutual attachment between parent and child, and makes life more enjoyable for everyone.
7. Slings are a bonding tool for fathers, grandparents, and other caregivers.
Slings are a useful tool for every adult in a baby's life. It makes me smile when I see a new father going for a walk with his baby in a sling. The baby is becoming used to his voice, heartbeat, movements and facial expressions, and the two are forging a strong attachment of their own. Fathers don't have the automatic head-start on bonding that comes with gestation, but that doesn't mean they can't make up for this once their baby is born. The same goes for babysitters, grandparents and all other caregivers. Cuddling up close in the sling is a wonderful way to get to know the baby in your life, and for the baby to get to know you!
8. Slings are a safe place for a child to be.
Instead of running loose in crowded or dangerous places, a child in a sling is held safe and secure right next to your body. Slings also provide emotional safety when needed, so that children can venture into the world and become independent at their own pace.
9. Slings are economical.
Slings cost far less than strollers, front-carriers or backpacks. Many mothers consider the sling to be one of their most useful and economical possessions. Inexpensive used slings can be found in consignment and thrift stores, and new ones can be bought for about $25 -$50 (U.S.) - not bad for an item many parents use daily for two years or more! A sling can also be sewn for the price of a length of cotton, some rings and batting; sling patterns are available.
10. Baby-wearing is fun.
Who doesn't love to cuddle a precious little baby? And when your baby is older, having her in the sling makes conversations easier and allows you to observe her reactions to the wonders of the world around her. It's also fun for baby, because when she is up at eye level, other adults notice and interact with her more. Your child will feel more a part of your life when she is in her sling, and you will find yourself becoming more and more enchanted with this special little person.

Babywearing Fun
Here are some pics of Eliza in the hotsling. I know I look like a hot mess in most of my pictures. I swear I did not always look like a candidate for What not to Wear! Although lately I have been secretly hoping Stacy and Clinton will run up to me with a camera crew and a $5,000 credit card.
I have also been practicing with my Babyhawk Mei Tai. I purchased the Tummy 2 Tummy DVD and I have been watching it for a few days straight. I am addicted. If you are interested in this DVD you can purchased it from Peppermint.
I wore the Mei Tai to the mall yesterday and Eliza napped cozily in there for almost the whole time. There were a couple of babies in strollers and I know they were jealously eyeing Eliza.

I hope to make videos of some carries but I need a cord for my JVC that plugs into the computer.
